Creating Promising Futures

Principal Message

Welcome to Custer Elementary! Custer Principal, Kathy Weymiller

We are proud to welcome you to Custer Elementary—recently named “Best in the South Sound 2025” by South Sound Magazine! This honor is a testament to our close-knit school community, the strong partnerships we maintain with families, and the unwavering dedication of our staff.

A Strong Partnership with Families

At Custer, we deeply value our collaboration with families. Your commitment plays a vital role in maintaining consistency and creating the best learning environment for your child. One key area of focus is daily, on-time attendance. When students arrive on time and attend regularly, they gain access to meaningful learning opportunities and build life skills like punctuality, discipline, and responsibility. It also supports their classroom engagement, collaboration, and social development. Arriving late can be stressful and disruptive—not just for the student, but for the entire class.

We’re thrilled to see consistent improvement in attendance, and we’re incredibly grateful for your continued efforts. Thank you for helping us create a culture of excellence!

Enrollment Information

Enrollment is always open online through the Clover Park School District website. If you already have students enrolled, you can register additional children through your Family Access account. Need help or access to a computer? A laptop is available for your use here at Custer.

A Note from the Principal

It is truly an honor to serve as the principal of Custer Elementary. The 2025–2026 school year marks my 40th—and final—year in education before retirement. I can honestly say I love this work, and I will continue to give it my all right up to the last day.

Our students, families, and staff are an extraordinary team. Together, we ensure that every child grows, thrives, and feels seen and valued.

Outside of school, I’m a proud wife and mom of three (two launched, one in college). I enjoy reading, crafting, singing, theater, sports, animals (especially dogs and cats!), and soaking up the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

Our Custer Culture

A while ago, I came across The 5th Avenue Theatre’s Audience Code of Conduct, and it beautifully reflects the kind of school culture we strive to create at Custer. Inspired by their message, I’d like to share our own version with you:

  • Everyone Belongs Here
We are one community, coming together to learn and grow. Greet each other warmly and celebrate the diversity that strengthens us.
  • Come As You Are
You are welcome here—just as you are. Your presence matters.
  • Show Kindness
To yourself, to others, and to our staff. Custer is a place of light, hope, and joy. Let’s leave negativity at the door and bring our best selves each day.
  • Words Have Power
Whether in person, over the phone, or on social media, our words shape our community. Let’s choose words that uplift, not harm.
  • We Share Energy
Our staff pours their hearts into this work every day. Your support and partnership help our students thrive. Even when we disagree, let’s remember we’re always on the same side—our children’s.

As we journey through this school year together, we remain committed to building a welcoming, caring, and inclusive environment for every student and family. Your voice matters. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
