Principal Message
Principal
Kathryn Weymiller
Welcome to Custer Elementary
We are proud to welcome you to Custer Elementary, recently named “Best in the South Sound 2025” by South Sound Magazine. This recognition reflects what we already know to be true: Custer is a very special place. Our close-knit community, strong family partnerships, and the unwavering dedication of our staff make our school extraordinary.
As we move into spring of a terrific school year, I am filled with gratitude. Our students continue to show enthusiasm, growth, and kindness. Our staff pours their hearts into their work each day. Our families have been true partners in learning. The strong momentum we have built together is setting the stage for continued success in the months ahead.
A Strong Partnership with Families
At Custer, we deeply value our collaboration with families. Your commitment helps create consistency and the best possible learning environment for your child.
One key area of focus is daily, on-time attendance. When students attend regularly and arrive on time, they gain access to meaningful learning opportunities and build important life skills such as responsibility, discipline, and punctuality. Tardiness, even when unavoidable, can create stress for students and interrupt the flow of classroom learning.
We are thrilled to see steady improvement in attendance and are grateful for your continued efforts. Thank you for helping us maintain a culture of excellence.
Enrollment Information
Enrollment is always open online through the Clover Park School District website. If you already have a student enrolled, you may register additional children through your Family Access account. If you need assistance or access to a computer, a laptop is available here at Custer for your convenience.
A Personal Note
It is truly an honor to serve as principal of Custer Elementary. The 2025–2026 school year marks my 40th and final year in education before retirement. I can honestly say I love this work, and I will continue giving it my very best right up to the last day.
I am incredibly proud of the strong foundation we have built together this year. Our classrooms are joyful. Our students are growing in confidence and skill. Our community continues to demonstrate resilience and heart. I am excited for all that the second half of the year will bring.
Together, we are an extraordinary team, ensuring that every child grows, thrives, and feels seen and valued.
Outside of school, I am a proud wife and mom of three, two launched and one in college. I enjoy reading, crafting, singing, theater, sports, animals, especially dogs and cats, and soaking up the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
Welcoming Custer’s Next Principal
I am pleased to share that Megan Qualls, currently principal at Dower Elementary, has been named the next principal of Custer. I hold Ms. Qualls in high regard and believe she will be a wonderful fit for our school culture. In the coming weeks, there will be opportunities to meet her and learn more. Stay tuned for additional information.
Our Custer Culture
Some time ago, I came across The 5th Avenue Theatre’s Audience Code of Conduct, and it beautifully reflected the kind of community we strive to build at Custer. Inspired by that message, here is our Custer version:
Everyone Belongs Here
We are one community, learning and growing together. We greet one another warmly and celebrate the diversity that strengthens us.
Come As You Are
You are welcome here, just as you are. Your presence matters.
Show Kindness
To yourself, to others, and to our staff. Custer is a place of light, hope, and joy. Let us bring our best selves each day.
Words Have Power
Whether spoken in person, shared over the phone, or posted online, our words shape our community. Let us choose words that uplift and support.
We Share Energy
Our staff pours their hearts into this work every day. Your partnership and encouragement make a difference. Even when we disagree, we remain on the same side, our children’s.
As we continue this school year together, we remain committed to building a welcoming, caring, and inclusive environment for every student and family. Your voice matters, and I encourage you to reach out anytime.
