Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ 1: When are my library books due?

Library books are due 2 weeks after they were checked out.

Chapter books can be renewed if I see you with the book. Bring it to me and you'll be good to go.

Additionally, at the end of the year, all books are given a final due date. This year that date is  the May 21 .

FAQ 2: What happens if I lost my book?

Choosing books to borrow from the library and returning them promptly is an important habit for students to acquire. It is important they take responsibility for the safe and timely return of books. Usually, students are still allowed to borrow books from the library with the promise they return their overdue books as soon as possible.

In most instances, library books that are initially lost are found on a bookshelf at home, in a forgotten backpack, or under a bed. Students are encouraged to search for those books thoroughly. Bedroom cleaning is encouraged.

In some instances, we ask that books that have been missing for a while be paid for, so a replacement can be ordered. Families are welcome to replace the lost book with another copy of the same book.

Custer Library has employed the "Pay Down Your Fines" program. Every time a student reads for 20 minutes, 50 cents will be removed from their fine. Students can read to pay off a portion or all of their fine. Please see Mrs. Billingsley for the required paperwork.

FAQ3: My library book was damaged. What do I do?

BRING THEM BACK TO MRS. BILLINGSLEY!!!

Damage to books sometimes happens. Students are encouraged to bring them back to the library so they can be assessed for the possibility of repairs. I usually have a talk with the students to troubleshoot the care of books but fines are not imposed for damaged books.
